Days Gone runs out of the box without tweaking or changing the Proton version. As is always the case with open-world games on the Steam Deck, we suggest going into the BIOS and bumping up the UMA Frame Buffer Size to 4G. Using CryoUtilities’ recommended settings might also give your more stable performance.
Recommended — Balanced Settings (Native@40fps | ~1h45m)
At mostly medium settings, Days Gone runs beautifully at a stable 40 frames per second. This gives you graphics fidelity on par with the PlayStation 4 version of the game, but while the PS4 version was capped at 30fps, the Steam Deck easily manages a consistent 40 frames per second throughout the game. Actually, the Deck can hit 50–60 fps in much of the game with the occasional dip into the 40s, so if you don’t mind a less consistent framerate, you can raise the framerate limit to 60Hz.

Best Quality Settings (Native@30fps | ~1h45m)
Days Gone already looks great with the previous settings, but if you can push the Steam Deck even further with this configuration. The Deck won’t be able to maintain that stable 40 fps, but it still hits 30 fps with ease. That’s a PS4 Pro-level experience in the palm of your hands!
