For most players, Divinity: Original Sin 2 runs perfectly out of the box. Some players have reported issues with the default launcher, in which case you may want to add the following to the game's launch options:

--skip-launcher

In-game text can be a bit small on the Steam Deck's screen. Thankfully, there's a community mod that fixes that. Download the Increased Text Size mod here and simply follow the instructions for improved readability on the Deck's display.

Recommended — Balanced Settings (Native@40fps | ~2h45m)

These settings give you the best balance of graphics quality and battery life. Nearly three hours of game time isn't bad at all! And by capping the framerate to 40 frames per second, we can get away with bumping up the graphics preset to High.

Battery-saving Settings (Native@30fps | ~3h30m)

The Balanced configuration above is excellent for playing in bursts, but if you're planning for longer sessions away from home, this configuration gets you maximum battery life. Of course, we've got to downgrade the graphics quality in exchange, but the final result still looks sharper and is more consistent than the Switch version.

The first thing we do is take advantage of the Steam Deck's built-in FSR capabilities. By switching to windowed mode and dropping the in-game resolution, we reduce a lot of the GPU load. The visuals are a good bit blurrier than native resolution, but FSR helps keep things sharp enough to play (though you may want to install that Increased Text Size mod to keep dialogue readable).

The next step is to drop the graphics settings down as low as possible without turning the game into a muddled mess. Some quality-of-life options can stay at High, like Texture Filtering and Texture Quality, since they don't impact battery life or framerate much.

Finally, we bring the framerate limiter all the way down to 30 frames per second in the SteamOS Performance tab. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a turn-based game, so bringing the framerate down doesn't affect playability as much as it would in something like Devil May Cry 5 — which runs amazingly on the Steam Deck, by the way (check out our guide for the best Steam Deck settings for Devil May Cry 5).

Altogether, these settings can get you well over 3 hours of playtime on a single charge.
