To get the best possible experience in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, we’ll have to make several changes.
The first is to change the version of Proton the game launches with. Yes, it runs fine on the default Proton, but some users have reported more stable framerates using a newer version. We recommend Proton Experimental or a version of Proton 8.
Then, go into the launch options and force the game to use DirectX 11 by adding the following line:
If you haven’t yet, go into your BIOS and change your Deck’s UMA Frame Buffer Size to 4G. This helps a bit with texture streaming and can improve your device’s framerate floor, making for a smoother overall experience.
The last change you should make before getting into the game is to install the Dynamic Resolution Disabler mod. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade uses a dynamic resolution technique that adjusts the game’s screen resolution on the fly to achieve stable framerates. Frankly, we haven’t noticed any real performance benefits to the technology, and it often causes muddy visuals whenever effects and assets are loaded. Use this mod to turn it off.
Balanced Settings (720p@40fps | ~2h30m)
There aren’t many in-game graphics options in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, so our tweaking options are limited. With these settings, your Steam Deck should be able to push into the low to high 50s, but we’ve capped the framerate to 40 for stability. Finally, setting the TDP to 9 Watts helps extend the game’s playtime on a single charge.
